Random finding

SlashDot reports that new estimates might increase the US oil reserve 10 times.

...a report by the US Geological Survey on the Bakken Formation. This is an oil field covering 200,000 square miles and underlying parts of North and South Dakota, Montana, and Saskatchewan. A geologist who began surveying the field, before dying in 2000, believed it may hold as much as 1 billion barrels of recoverable oil. Later estimates have ranged to the hundreds of billions of barrels. Such a reserve would go a long way toward securing US energy independence.

Would this be a significant factor on their energy independence?

EDIT:
And since the weekend is up, check out this off the wall radio show on the April's fools http://download.2600.com/mediadownload/www.2600.com/offthewall/mp3files/2008/off_the_wall__20080401.mp3

Off the wall for those of you who don't know is a radio program hosted by emmanuel goldstein of 2600.com hacker quarterly magazine. He also hosts a geekier program called off the hook. Off the wall mainly deals w/ more huminitarian issues like human rights and stuff. Pretty interesting check it out.
