So the parliment has been dissembled and up for re-elections in May. I notice that, pretty much no one really had any kind of sympathy for the parliment.
It even ended w/ no meaningful/progressive projects qued. The last actions of teh parliment b4 dssmissing it was related to personal attacks w/ members of the government. Not saying that members of the government are angels
The change we're expected to make as voters is gonna be hard w/ the new 5 districts system, I still can't c what kind of outcome would come out of this system which is completely stupid imho and I base that on the sole fact that a voter will not have true representation in the parliment, atleast 60% of those who claim to represent you wouldn't have been voted on by you. One day we will just wake up and thnk, is that really the will of the people? Thats the outcome?
I was contemplating simply not voting, but I think we're still too immature to understand what voters abstinance means so, I recommend everyone votes so your voice is heard. Although with this system the impression I get is like "we don't care about your opinion, we'll just choose a random bunch and we'll call them your reps."
Well to put an end to this rant, I'd like you guys to check this song... this is the original music video. I know Kuwaities would be able to relate.

I hate elections!
well unlike you big pearls i love it !! i think its very important .. but its soo not taken seriously around here .. people are voting in exchange for a favor or even money , which is like selling your own conscious .. and now after having those 5 districts things are getting messy i'm sure .. daddy was soo pissed about it he was just talking about it yesterday .. says it would cause a lot of problems and wrong people would win this thing NOT for the right reason .. they will make a mess and makes things worse than they already are !! I was working with a campaign last time .. but now I’m not even sure with whom to work .. or whatsoever !
My only thought on this new election is, that if we choose to be negative and blame anyone for any of our government's inefficiencies (7okooma and majles both), we should only blame ourselves. NOT whoever's in charge. because whoever's in charge comes as one of us.
big Pearls: I understand that, but it is important for us to have a hand in issues that affect us directly. And now that women get to vote, your vote should make a difference and will make them listen to u whether they like it or not.
Navy: I love elections too, it is a time of complete chaos. And since I am chaos panic n disorder this floats my boat really nicely.
Seriously, I salute your dad. He knows what he's talking about. We just won't have fair representation, and people who just shouldn't have made it will make it there. And you know whats worse? they will claim they represent you while you had nothing to do w/ them. All the hype is about whos running alongside who, not sure how the campaigns will look this year. I'll be on the side trying to get a few kicks watching them beg for approval I guess
falantan: I have been thinking about this man, the previous parliments were elected and selected by us after all. We should therefore make ourselves heard actively or things won't work out. But still with the new system we just won't have fair accurate representation.
too bad im missing out on elections yet again
Kaos, you are in your element. Please keep posting about the elections, I am on the outside looking in. It's all a mystery to me.
eshda3wa: You missed out on the last parliament dissemble too?
Oh well, good luck w/ ur studies, focus on the board and come back
intlxpatr: my friend, so ur abroad now? Ok, I'll do my best inshallah but u probably will find more or less all the info in the newspapers. if something catches my attention i'll be sure to post it though
What the newspapers cover is only a thin layer of icing on a very dense cake. There is a whole lot going on that those of us not involved never see (and I am in Kuwait!)
Powerful video, I have a question. Could a group like that ever play Kuwait? Could both sexes attend, if they sat separately? I understand you can't dance, but can you wave your arms at a rock concert? Clap? Shake your fist? It seems there are rules, and some who are allowed and some who aren't, and I can't figure it all out.
I don't vote yet, but I am for the five districts.
Voting abstinence.. Rubbish...
As a responsible citizen, one got to vote. However CRAP, you got to choose between the bad and the worse.
I would choose bad, if presented with a choice.
Remember the fact that if you dont vote, probably there is one vote less for the bad, than the worse.
Damn! Why do i get a feeling that I am allergic to voting atmosphere.
Coming to the WILL of the people as a whole, 80% of that WILL is pseudo will. 20% counts, yet 80% is the majority you see.

intlxpat: well, am not really that involved :), I choose to sit on the lines now since last few times I got involved I got dissapointed :) but I'll report on whatever I find interesting :) I appreciate the encouragement
Well, the art scene in Kuwait has really deteriorated partly because of increased regulation making it unwelcoming to fine arts like rock n roll. There were never "real" rock concerts that happened in Kuwait, infact none of the big guys ever showed up like metallica and maiden. Yet last year maiden played in Dubai, show's you the variance of tolerance among the two places. You say for both sexes to attend and stuff, lets start w/ these events happening at 1st. Music scene is not mean to be public here and its generally covered as a private event. When I came back to Kuwait I heard about these local bands that are making it and I went to a private concert in shi3ib park, it got cancelled. Management refused to let it go for w/e lame reason.
There r attempts now and people are trying to get things like battle of the band and rock in teh desert going. But I believe they still are not public and try to officially announce it as private. I went on and on on this subject coz it gets to me, the theme is limitation on all public expression.
amethyst: I am against teh current system because of the hidden details not what the're trying to achieve. Had the 10 district system with any voter having 5 votes been carried out I wouldn't have been against it, but think about it. They allow you 3-5 votes depending on the district and 10 out of that district will say they represent you.
soul: your comment made my day. totally true, I just hope by election time teh voters would've been educated on the matter that they make sure they get themselves heard.
